Since beginning her educational journey at Keuka College, Katie Ehrhart ’23 has taken full advantage of every opportunity presented to her to further her professional art career. The latest opportunity is titled “The Beauty of Ball Hall.”
The watercolor painting was chosen as the cover image for the College’s annual Honors Convocation ceremony held each May. Honors Convocation is an annual event that celebrates and recognizes students for their distinguished academic achievements.
Katie, an Art and Design major, submitted her painting in response to a call from members of Sigma Lamba Sigma (SLS), Keuka College’s institution-wide honor society, who invited student artists to submit a creative campus image for the cover of the 2022 Honors Convocation brochure.
Student artists specializing in photography, watercolor, or digital design were asked to focus on color, energy, joy, respect for the environment, and communicate meaning to the entire College community.
And “The Beauty of Ball Hall” was just what SLS was waiting for.
“This call was to make the brochure as extraordinary as Honors Convocation itself,” says Assistant Professor of Social Work Dr. Sekai Turner, an advisor to the honor society. “As review of artwork began, it became clear that Katie’s art focused on her passion for education and community, which made her a natural choice for the 2022 brochure cover.”
Katie said having her painting on the cover is one step closer to becoming a professional artist.
“I have had the honor of having one of my graphite drawings selected for the Yates County Arts Council’s juried art show, as well as designing a book cover and illustrations for “Firehouse 5” by Timothy Munn,” says Katie. “I wish to pursue a career in high school art education so I can inspire young artists to follow their dreams.”
Also considered for the cover was a photograph submitted by Mary Hennessy ’24, a unified early childhood education major.
